Surf lessons meet at one of two North Shore breaks — Chun’s Reef or Puaʻena Point — depending on the day’s conditions. SUP lessons meet at the river mouth of the Anahulu (Haleʻiwa Harbor). Before we hit the water, you’ll get a short, clear land lesson covering the essentials: how to safely paddle, how to pop up to your feet on the board, how to handle the board in surf, and basic ocean awareness. The land lesson is intentionally quick and easy — our goal is to get you in the water and catching waves, not lecturing on the beach.
No — all gear is provided. North Shore Surf Girls supplies the surfboard and rash guard for every lesson. A wetsuit top is available on request (though Hawaii water is usually nice and warm year-round). Just bring sunscreen, swimwear, a towel, and water.
Most first-time surfers stand up and ride their first wave during their very first lesson with North Shore Surf Girls. Our instructors dial in the right spot, the right wave, and the right push so beginners experience the joy of catching a wave on day one. We’ve been teaching beginners on Oahu’s North Shore since 2005.
